As a result of her community involvement work, Kelly Macias was invited to the White House for an evening of poetry, music and the spoken word ! Kelly and her husband, Andres, spent the evening with President and Ms. Obama along with other attendees including director Spike Lee, James Earl Jones (who read from Othello), Valerie Jarrett (Senior Advisor to President Obama), George Stephanopolous, Hill Harper, Rep. Jesse Jackson, Jr., Zach Braff (from Scrubs), Tatiyana Ali (from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air).

Congratulations, Renata!! Renata Carniero completed her Master of Science in Counseling Psychology at the University of Baltimore and was selected by the Yale Gordon College of Liberal Art's Advisory Council as the 2009 recipient of the Award for Academic Excellence. This award is given to one undergraduate and one graduate student who meets extraordinary academic standards. Renata was also selected valedictorian of the 2009 Graduate class.

Christel N. Temple-Giles, Professor of Africana & Women's Studies at the University of Maryland Baltimore County delivers a short but powerful lecture on how the use of language and terminology perpetuates racism and sexism. This lecture suggest that we not use language that continues to tie us to what we were but defines who we are now by embracing our cultural and history morays and values.

Congratuations to Tiffany Hill who published her new novel, "Nothing Short of a Rainbow" under the pen name Kaution. You can find and read an excerpt at amazon.com or on her web site. Kaution also released "Don't Wanna Be a Playa".
On September 27th 12-7 pm, you can see Kaution at the Baltimore Book Festival, 600 N. Charles Street and at her book signing in NY on June 28th. She will be promoting 3 other books and an online audio soap opera later this year.
